Character Overview
Steroids is the seventh character in the game and is unlocked by
reaching 6-1 (Labs) as any character. His loadout starts with two
Revolvers which compliments his active ability.
His B-Skin is unlocked
if he defeats the Technomancer, a boss found on 6-1 L1 (loop Labs).
His C-Skin is unlocked by reaching (sitting on) the Nuclear Throne without picking up any weapons.
Starting with a golden weapon is allowed.

Abilities
Active: "Dual Wielding"
- Pressing RMB will cause Steroids to fire his secondary weapon, which can be fired at the same time as his primary weapon.
- Unlike other characters, if Steroids is holding a weapon it is not removed from the drop pool.
-
All weapons are now automatic. A full list can be viewed
here, with sortable columns.
- Any weapons with the fire type of 'single shot/single swing' are now automatic instead.
- Any weapons with the fire type of 'burst fire' are now automatic burst instead.
-
As a negative passive Steroids will also have an inaccuracy of '1.8',
where other mutants accuracy is '1'.
- Inaccuracy is used as a multiplier for weapon spread; the effect is small for accurate weapons and huge for weapons that already have a wider spread.
- Weapons with a fixed weapon spread are also affected by this, such as Shovel or Super Crossbow.
-
Eagle Eyes will change his accuracy to '0.54', while other mutants
accuracy changes to '0.3'.
- This means that Steroids can never get 'normal' accuracy, either being very inaccurate or very accurate.
- Firing one weapon has a chance to give ammo for the other. The chance is increased if both LMB and RMB are held simultaneously.
- Does not work if one or both weapons do not use ammo.
- The ammo given is half that of an ammo pickup which is 16 Bullets, 4 Shells, 4 Bolts (rounded up), 3 Explosives and 5 Energy.
- The exact chance is actually a complicated formula. (To be added later)

Ambidextrous Ultra: "Double Weapons From Chests"
- Weapon chests and cursed chests will have their sprites replaced with Steroids-specific variants and contain two of the same weapons.
- Big weapon chests and big cursed chests give their usual three weapons, but now include a fourth that is a copy of one of the other weapons.
- The extra weapon will give the player ammo like usual.
- Ammo chests will be replaced with a Steroids-specific variant that gives all five types of ammo at once.
- The amount of ammo for each type is the same as normal ammo chests.
- Present chests don't change visually but will behave just like Steroids ammo chests. IDPD chests are unchanged.
- Whatever primary weapon is held when opening these chests do not matter.
- If a portal opens one of these chests they will instead behave like a normal ammo chest, giving two ammo pickups.
- Steroids will always start a run with dual Revolvers. The second Revolver gives 64 extra Bullets on start, giving 160 Bullets combined.
- If Steroids runs a golden weapon it will only ever replace the primary Revolver.
- For weekly challenges on update 100, Steroids will only ever start with the preset weapon(s). This is the only situation in which he will ever have one weapon.
- On u99, Steroids will start runs with his secondary Revolver if there is only one preset weapon.
Preloop Strategy Guide
Steroids can easily be considered the best character in preloop in terms of offense due to his extremely powerful active. This is also reflected through the speedrun leaderboards, where he often has a strong lead in any category.
Active Ability
Rating: Meta Defining
Steroids can fire both weapons at once which directly translates into
doubling his DPS. This allows him to have a strongly offensive gameplay
style, being able to rush through levels while easily handling any
threats before him given a decent weapon combination.
A counterbalance to Steroids' active is that he suffers from inaccuracy. Any weapons with a larger number for spread angle (sortable) will be noticably far worse for Steroids, meaning that he may want to skip over some weapons entirely if not running Eagle Eyes.
Passive Ability
Rating: Useful
Any weapon is treated as automatic by Steroids. This is essentially a
quality of life boost, as he can repeatedly fire any weapon as soon
as possible without having to focus on when a weapon is reloaded.
Throne Butt Ability
Rating: Very Useful
Steroids' Throne Butt lets him get ammo for one of his weapons by firing the
other, being much more effective when firing both. This allows Steroids to fully
lean into an offensive playstyle as he's constantly regaining ammo at an
even higher rate, and makes running two weapons of the same ammo type much
more viable. Popular builds includes dual bolts and dual bullets.
If planning on a run using ammoless melee, then his Throne Butt can be considered
useless and skipped over entirely.
Mutations
Ammo management will quickly become a problem for Steroids as his dual
wielding will burn through his ammo. Because of that there should be a heavier
emphasis on ammo-related mutations than other characters. Throne Butt, Back Muscle
and Rabbit Paw are all great starts to a solid Steroids build. Other typical
picks to maintain higher damage such as Plutonium Hunger, Scarier Face and Stress
are always wise to take.
Eagle Eyes can be an important part of Steroids build if a typically good weapon
appears that has high spread - this can be pretty situational, meaning that
Eagle Eyes is not necessary for a good Steroids run, but given the
right drops it could bring an entire build together.
On the other hand, a mutation like Bolt Marrow will help
most bolt weapons hit targets much easier even with inaccuracy, making it
a solid choice even if a bolt weapon hasn't been found yet.
Loop Strategy Guide
Steroids is given a choice between two ultras that have minimal gameplay impact due to his active being so strong. Where he was the best in preloop he is simply good in loop, while still offering some of the most satisfying gameplay.
Active Ability
Rating: Very Useful
Steroids active is still one of the best in the game at this point
allowing him to clear levels at an incredibly quick pace. Popular builds
around this point features running two weapons of the same ammo type, such as
dual bullets, dual shells or dual bolts as they give guaranteed ammo pickups
to that ammo type and Steroids can use them both effectively.
Ambidextrous and Get Loaded
Rating: Neutral
Both ultras change Steroids run very little and is up to player preference.
Get Loaded has somewhat more utility if running two different ammo types,
or simply stopping Present Chests from giving random ammo. Ambidextrous
can find its use in trying out different dual weapon combinations throughout
the run.
Throne Butt Ability
Rating: Very Useful
Steroids' Throne Butt stays consistently powerful into loop, allowing him
to lean heavily into weapon builds that have higher ammo consumption.
This is particularly the most useful for more aggressive/offensive builds,
while it can be skipped entirely if running an ammoless melee build.
Dual Builds
This is a list of weapons seen in dual builds during loop, while
not comprehensive. Some runs that go to meta loops can be found on the
fun builds leaderboard, including video links.
This list is just suggestions of fun dual builds to try out. Each of them benefit considerably by their respective weapon mutations,
with the exception of shells.
- Dual Bullets: Combinations include Minigun, Double Minigun, Hyper Rifle, Ultra Revolver
- Dual Shells: Combinations include Hyper Slugger, Auto Flame Shotgun, Super Flak Cannon, Ultra Shotgun
- Dual Bolts: Combinations include Auto Crossbow, Heavy Auto Crossbow, Super Crossbow, Ultra Crossbow
- Dual Explosives: Combinations include Super Bazooka, Hyper Launcher, Ultra Grenade Launcher
- Dual Energy Ranged: Combinations include any plasma weapons, Laser Minigun, Laser Cannon, Ultra Laser Pistol
- Running dual energy with an energy melee (usually Energy Sword) is one of the best combinations for any character during loop play.
